St Anne's C of E School, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire

Many schools now use the device of a prayer chair as an interactive display to support their Christian ethos and pupils' spiritual development - at St Anne's the chair display is not only changed regularly but is also an impoortant facet of the RE curriculum.  Each time the display focus is changed small groups of children are taken down to view the chair by the TA responsible for its construction.  There is time to talk and reflect together and to engage in the interactive activity.  All pupils have an opportunity during RE to visit the chair, the children also choose to re-viist the chair in their own personal time.  It is now a key element of the school's life.

The photographs were taken in January 2012 when children were thinking of personal achievement and their aims for the new year - messages left on the post-it notes showed children were sharing both personal and academic goals.

St Mary's C of E School, Mildenhall, Suffolk

This structure is a "'Who do you say I am?' box. This was painted black inside and collaged with pictures of Jesus at all different stages of his life. The children were invited to look inside then write their ideas about who they think Jesus is on the outside - this produced some fantastic ideas!

Thomas Bullock C  of E School, Shipdam, Norfolk

The school has the benefit of an expert art teacher who is able to draw all areas of the curriculum into her specialism, but this has a particular benefit for the Religious Education.

Work on the fish as a symbol of Christianity led to an art project which was used in a service in Norwich Cathedral and as a display which was used in the local church, and in school.  Pupils had designed and created banners which made use of the fish symbol, by using batik paint to create the water background, ironing on fish shapes which were then linked with sewing and other materials.  The fish symbol was also used to create clay shapes which were then displayed on a creation themed background around the school, shown here.
